After an absence of six years the Devon Restricted Veterans Tournament has been revived and took place on 11 November at the Acorns Centre in Torquay.
Grateful thanks to the financial Sponsorship from John Chow and Graham Starkie in making the event possible.
The Tournament was divided into two age groups, namely the over 40’s and over 50’s with there being Mens, Ladies and Mixed Doubles in both groups.
The entries in the over 40’s were somewhat disappointing with just three pairs in the Mens and Ladies events and five pairs in the Mixed. The over 50’s had five pairs in both the Mens and Ladies and eight pairs in the Mixed.
The Tournament was handicapped and each discipline was played as a Round Robin, so all the players had plenty of badminton throughout the day.
The Rally Points Scoring System was used which made the handicapping rather difficult particularly with 21 point games but it did result in some very close and exciting finishes, in fact more than twenty games resulted in scores of 21/18 or better.
All the players agreed the Tournament had been a great success and a most enjoyable day and are looking forward to increased entries to enable this annual event to grow and develop in the future.
