The U17's began this seasons fixtures with a home match against Somerset, the match was as usual a keen hard fought battle with both teams keen to secure a victory, the Devon team included three debutant players Wiill Hawkes, Sarah Preece and Tanya Broom all making their first ever appearance at any age group for a Devon team.
The boys singles proved to be very even with both sides securing 3 points each in these events, the Devon boys won the first three singles the closest of which saw Dominic Trewin win 21-15 17-21 23-21. Somerset replied by taking the remaining threes boys singles.
The Devon girls put in a fine display in the singles events to win 5 -1 with comfortable two set victories for the top three girls, the remaining events proved a little closer with both Chloe Gaskin and Tanya Broom holding their nerve to win their matches in close 3rd sets.
Leading 8 - 4 beginning the level doubles events Devon built on their singles successes and continued to press home the advantage by winning 12 of the doubles matches to leave them in an unassailable position leading 20 -12 prior to the mixed events.
There was no let up from the Devon team during the mixed events as they continued the successes by winning the first four mixed events and only missed out on a clean sweep with narrow defeats in the 3rd set of the final two matches.
Overall a good result and great start to the season.
