Devon U13 TeamAfter being beaten by Dorset in January, the team was determined to put in a better showing in our home match against Cornwall.

The boys kicked things off with a hard fought win for Simon Brassington against Tony Marshall. Simon was carrying a bit of an injury and the first rubber went against him 29-30!! In the second, Simon gathered himself up very well and played a good tactical game winning 21-12. But the third was very tough as Simons injury was really starting to play up. Simon refused to concede the game and carried on, winning 21-17.

What a game to start the day off with, and what a brave performance.
The boys did very well winning 5 of the 6 singles.

The girls were true to form and swept all before them, only in 2 rubbers did the Cornwall girls get into double figures.

So After the singles the score is 11-1 to Devon.

The boys doubles saw some very close games as the Cornwall boys played very well in their partnerships. Simon and Sam only dropped 1 game, as did Charlie and Ben. George and Luke however won all three of there doubles after some close games and (questionable positioning!!)
The girls again where supreme. The only threat came from Imogen Powell and Bethany Wotton when they took Hannah Preece and Olivia Marshall to a third game.

So after the doubles the score was 27-3 to Devon.

The mixed was another clean sweep for Devon, however some of the games were very close. Simon and Laura needed 3 games to overcome Tony and Bethany, but they held it together and came through.
I was really pleased for the boys today, it did them the world of good to have a bit of success. But it shows how strong the girls are in the squad this year as they were unbeaten in singles, doubles and their mixed.

Player of the match has to go to Simon Brassington for his determination in his singles while suffering with an injury. When I asked him if he wanted to concede the game he looked at me as if I was mad, “But that will mean I lose” was the reply.
