This is a great result for the start of the season. I didn?t really know what to expect as we didn?t play Cornwall last season.
Our boys were unbeaten in the singles, but unfortunately Cornwall only had 3 girls, so they played 1 girl from the U15s and played their 1 and 2 girls twice in the singles so all of our girls would get some games. We won 5 out of 6 of the girls singles. Rachel (number 6) had to play a singles against Cornwall?s number 2 girl (Maddi Easterbrook), and Rachel won the first game 11-10 after putting her heart and soul into the game. Maddi won the second and third games but the point was ours anyway as she was playing out of position to give Rachel a game. Olivia (number 5) had a tougher time against their number 1 Jo Philp, but again the point was ours.
The boys won 8 out of 9 of the doubles, and apart from the game that was lost, our boys didn't really look threatened.
The girls won 7 out of 9 of their doubles and the games were much closer than the boys had been. But the girls played very well and the only games
dropped were to their number 1 pair Jo & Maddi.
In the mixed we won all 6 games with only one game going to a 3rd. I am very pleased with how the squad gelled together and I think they will get even stronger as the season goes on.
The player of the match has to be Olivia Marshal. She put everything she had into her games and never gave up. I was particularly impressed with her attacking play in her doubles games.
